Minnesotans are active by nature and summertime is a favorite season. On any given day in Minneapolis Saint Paul you’ll see people biking, fishing, sailing, canoeing, running, golfing or water skiing…we know how to take advantage of our near perfect summers!

Minnesota boasts more than 90,000 miles of shoreline – more than California, Florida and Hawaii combined. Despite the popular catch phrase, “Land of 10,000 Lakes,” there are 11,850 lakes in Minnesota. It won’t be difficult for you to find water while you are here -- 929 lakes are in Minneapolis Saint Paul.

Looking to hit the links while you are here? According to the National Golf Foundation, Minnesota ranks fourth among top golf destinations in the U.S. In addition, Minnesota ranks first in the nation for golfers and golf courses per capita.

If you want to work in a little bit of exercise while you’re here you’ll have plenty of opportunities, including Freewheelin’, a bike share program that will bring 1,000 bikes to Minneapolis Saint Paul. Join Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak (named “Most Fit Mayor” by Men’s Fitness magazine) and Saint Paul Mayor Chris Coleman in a graduated triathlon. On Monday, Sept. 1 the mayors will lead a 5K run along the Mississippi River; on Tuesday join the mayors in a bike ride through downtown Minneapolis and on Wednesday you can swim, canoe or kayak on beautiful Lake Calhoun.
